# Why stETH?

Asymetrix is focused on Ethereum as the underlying asset because it is a top asset that natively generates yield from staking. When creating the Asymetrix protocol, different liquid staking derivatives (LSDs) offered by various liquid staking providers were evaluated .

Currently, liquid staking providers offer two types of LSDs: **c-Token** (rewards reflected in token price, such as rETH, cbETH, and others) and **a-Token** (rebase, more generated rewards for more tokens, balance updates every 24h, such as stETH).

stETH was chosen as the main asset because of its transparency and product-market fit. The stETH token is currently the most dominant token of liquid staking protocols, with a market cap of over $5 billion.
